Delhi: August 2, 2010: The new academic session of Delhi Technological University (DTU), formerly Delhi College of Engineering, commenced today with an ‘Orientation Session’ held for the newly admitted students of B.Tech. and M.Tech. courses of the University, at the University auditorium.
In his introductory remarks, Prof. G.L. Verma, Dean, Academics, DTU, informed, “The University is implementing its new syllabus from this academic session, which has been designed at par with international curriculum, in consultation with experts from IITs, reputed universities and renowned industries.” He also cautioned the new entrants that they are required to maintain minimum 75% attendance in each semester in order to be eligible to appear in the examinations. He also introduced the senior officers, Deans and Heads of the Departments, on the occasion.
Welcoming the freshers to the DTU family, Mr. U.K. Wohra, Registrar, DTU said, “The University administration is committed to provide an environment to our students that would assist them in achieving excellence in their academic domain.” He moreover, assured the parents present on the occasion in large numbers that DTU follows a “Zero Tolerance Policy in Ragging” and any incident of ragging will be severely dealt with.
The highlight of the Orientation session was the Keynote Address by the Vice Chancellor, Prof. P.B. Sharma entitled “Engineers of tomorrow – Empower yourself with the Wings of Knowledge and Power of Innovation”. Encouraging the new students to make out the most of the given opportunity to acquire world-class education at DTU, Prof. Sharma said, “Get the benefit of being in the company of talented faculty and acquire both knowledge as well as capabilities to greet the challenges of the new Knowledge Age. Let you empower yourself with the wings of knowledge and power of innovation and with this empowerment, imbibe an attitude akin to a positive and proactive thinking, caring concern for men and nature and above all, an eagerness to serve and excel in your chosen domain of activity throughout your lifetime.”
The Vice Chancellor also remarked that despite all the apprehensions regarding upgradation of DCE into DTU, DTU has done extremely well during last one year and has been ranked among top engineering institutions by Outlook, Zee News-DNA and Competition Success Review, India Today, HT-C-Fore etc. He also informed that the graduating batch of DTU has received almost 683 job offers from 138 companies, which is the highest number of companies to have visited DTU/DCE campus till date and even today on the first day of the new academic session Amazon.com, a multinational, is visiting the University campus for placements.
He also gave a set of five advices to the freshers on the occasion – pay greatest attention to your studies & academic activities, submit yourself to strict self-discipline, be techsavvy and take full advantage of knowledge warehouse existing on the internet, protect the fair name of DTU by being an ethical leader & a person of fair integrity, and fight the menace of ragging.

After the programme, the first year students were circulated a copy of their syllabus, time-table, Anti-Ragging booklet and a copy of DTU Times, the students’ publication of the University. Thereafter, they were then taken for the campus visit to the Library, Computer Centre, Science Block and various departments of the University.
