Delhi; April 29, 2011: Delhi Technological University (DTU), formerly Delhi College of Engineering, is all set to create a new record for its placements this year. The University is steadily marching towards the magical figure of 1000 job offers this year. The graduating batch of DTU has already received 931 job offers from 166 companies, so far. Infact, almost 140 students of the University have got more than one job offers in hand.
In 2009-10, the University had received 683 job offers from 138 companies for approx. 460 eligible candidates, whereas in 2008-09, total 620 job offers were made to the DTU students. The highest package so far for this year is 11.8 LPA from PGCIL, which has made 4 job offers. The average pay package so far is also slightly better than last year at over 6 LPA. It has also been observed that companies are now hiring people in larger numbers than previous years, for example, Deloitte has made 33 job offers, Evalue Serve has made 27 job offers and BHEL has made 25 offers, among others, this year.
According to Prof. P. B. Sharma, Vice Chancellor, DTU, "The bumper placements at DTU this year, is a reflection of our high academic standards and strong interface with the industry. DTU prepares its students beyond structured curriculum by encouraging industry interaction at various levels through guest lectures, industrial visits and project work, which bridges the gap between graduating engineers and professional engineers and makes our students job-ready. I am hopeful that soon we will cross the mark of 1000 placements, which will be an unprecedented achievement in the history of this institution." The first graduating batch of MBA students of Delhi School of Management, the on campus B-School of DTU are also being picked by reputed companies in their first placement season itself. Total 34 students of MBA have been made job offers so far by 11 companies, with highest salary offered at Rs 9 LPA + allowance by Telecon.
The prominent companies which have visited DTU this year include Microsoft, Maruti, IOCL, GAIL, Sony, Yahoo, C-Dot, Nestle, JP Morgan, L&T, Tata Motors, Google, TCS and NTPC, among many others. The largest number of recruiters, in last few years, are from IT and software sector, followed by Automobile and allied engineering, Civil and Construction, and Polymers and Chemicals. The emerging sectors where hiring's are taking place are Knowledge Process Outsourcing and Business Analysis, with companies like Deloitte, Goldman Sachs and Mckinsey & Co. hiring students. There is also an increase in demand in the Construction industry with companies like Bector, Punj & Lloyd, Larsen & Turbo, Ansal construction (this year), GS Construction, among others, recruiting DTU students in good numbers.
